Fully completed head project.
how i constructed this was making an oval, then starting by pushing in with my thumbs to make eye sockets. after i did this i made the cheekbones because i knew my face was gonna have an open mouth. after that i made the nose by creating a new peice of clay and then adding it with slick on to the face. then i created the eyes, eye lids, and the eyebrows. now it was time for the last and hardest part the mouth, i made the lips well but making the tongue was a small struggle and very hard to glaze. what went well was making the divits on the face such as the eye sockets. another thing that went well was making the nose and also digging out the clay from the back side. there was still many struggles though, such as making the teeth and tongue, these were hard to make because they were super small and super hard to attatch to the inside of the mouth. by far the most tedious part was painting the eyebrows and eyes. if i were to do this project again i would do 2 things differently. 1, i would use a smaller brush to color in the eyebrows instead of rushing it. 2, i would not make eyelashes, this turned out as a huge mess and failure.
to construct the first stamp I took a ball of clay and pressed on it on 4 sides to make grips. then I ended up designing a cat on the stamp, by grabbing another piece of clay and attaching it to the front to give it some elevation so that the stampo would be of just the cat face. to make my ring I grabbed a ball of clay poked my ring finger through, and kept pushing it out until it was big enough for my thumb. to fix the cracks I added water and some slick. I then created the designs on the ring with a needle tool. i glazed both of these with a primary color and a contrasting color on the stamp area to make it pop more using a contrasting color scheme. the easiest part of making the ring was making the hole through it. it went super well and took about 20 seconds. the hardest part was the clay I used, it was way too hard and formed many cracks. from now on I will be careful of the clay quality. what I would do differently if I were to remake it now, is I would make it smoother, because it looks really rough and it was harder to sculpt and move because it was dry.
to cunstruct my clay plate i first grabbed a chunk of clay, wedged it, then rolled it out evenly. after I rolled it out I laid it on a square plate and cut off the excess. after cutting the excess, I then proceeded to make sure every side was even and would get rid of any that isn't. i then added 2 layers of undergralze but figured out it wasn't enough, so I added a new layer of glaze, wich was an ACCIDENT because I forgot you don't use glaze on gray clay. something that went really bad was getting enough clay for it to fit the whole plate. fitting the plate was super hard because I would have too much clay on one side compared to other sides and it would end up in not having enough clay to fill out a corner. wich would end up in a restart to the whole project and would require me to reroll the same clay making it more and more dryed out the more i messed up. it also didnt get fired...
